10 Pound Challenge: So here’s the story… My Guy is almost at his goal weight! He is just about 20 lbs shy- and it has been KILLING him to get lower. He counts everything he eats and every calorie he burns when he exercises and lately the number on the scale is just not going in the right direction! (Even though that exact same process got him down the 85+ that he has already lost!) Me? Oh- well see, what ha ha happened was… I guess I was not as watchful as I needed to be. I have been complacent… I knew I had creeped up about 6 pounds when I went to NY to see my family- but my clothes still fit and I still feel really good, so I wasn’t TOO worried- Until one day last week I looked and the scale said 176!! WHOA NELLY! OOPS! I am most comfortable at 166… and I wanted to get down to 160 and try to stay there.
Sooo- Enter the 10 Pound Challenge! The first one of us to loose 10 pounds first, WINS! We decided that we are going to be extra vigilant, eat even lower calorie than usual. We have been letting those food calories creep up- we definately do not believe in long term low low calorie dieting. No alcohol (A drink in the evenings more often than not while we grill is not helping either!) We are also going to get as much exercise as we can, with heat indexes of over 105- that hasn’t been much this week! These are all the things we KNOW we need to do- we have done all along to help us be successful… but we comitted this week to a renewed focus… and a PRIZE! If My Guy looses 10 pounds first, I have to give him a treat of his choosing, and if I loose 10 pounds first- he has to give me a treat of my choosing! Nothing like a good challenge!
Why do we get away from those things that first made us successful?
This has already resulted in about 6 lbs loss for My Guy! (We started the challenge MONDAY!) REALLY? All those men out there… they loose weight so much faster at first don’t they? I do have to say though- just cutting out the random snacking that I was doing during the day and being a bit more vigilant at dinner, I have already lost a few pounds too!
We went for a run tonight… the race we were going to run was canceled because of the heat- so we went for a short (3.1 miles!) slow run anyway- following part of the race route because it is in our neighborhood anyway. We felt like Paul Revere- there were people lined up along the race route waiting to watch the race (it is a HUGE spectator party race and lots of people watch and cheer for it!) As we ran along we told people who were already sitting there that the race was canceled. Even though it was over 105 degrees with the humidity and we ourselves were running, people looked at us like we had three heads! LOL I don’t think all of them believed us!
Did you see what I just said? “We went for a run tonight too?” I also said “the heat index was over 105!” WOW! What a new life we are both living! Who would have thought even a little over a year ago, let alone three years ago, for either of us, that we would be having such a great time running… in the heat? Last weekend we did a 23 mile bike ride on Saturday morning! Tomorrow night we’re going to the Art Museum for a bike gathering and at least once this weekend we will be going out on our bikes again too! Gotta love it!!
Anyone else out there want to challenge yourself to a short term weight loss goal? We will support you and help give you the cheering section to get there!? Let us know!
