Follow-up conversation with Dietician- Bariatric Clinic

OK so I have been in a bit of a funk about the slow weight loss etc… so I wanted to make sure I was really still doing the right things in my eating etc. So I gave my dietician at the clinic a call. Don’t be afraid to use the resources available to you when you need them.

I have been tracking all my food- and concerned that while I know my portions are generally small- they are not really only 1/2 a cup.. so I wanted to know if my calorie range was ok- was I in the right zone for continuing to loose weight. I know what the right calorie range is for people with “normal stomachs” but I really had no idea what MY calorie range should be.

I explained to her that my calories go back and forth between about 550 and 1100 calories a day. She told me that was actually a good range. :) That made me happy- to know that I am in the right range. She told me it was ok- actually really good that they go up and down some. That people loose weight better when their calories go up and down some like that and don’t stay stagnant at the same range every day. Double good. I am glad that I called- helps me to be reassured that I am doing the right thing.

She also told me something else that is very helpful… she said once people reach the point that I am at… they tend to loose weight a little differently than they did the first 5-6 months after surgery. She said that instead of loosing a little but every day… every week… it is more of a loose- then hold, loose then hold, loose then hold… so these “little plateaus” are going to be normal. PHEW!

That makes me feel so good- to know that I am still doing things well.. doing the right things… and everything is pretty normal.. even though I had been all in a tizzy about it last week.

I guess it is all good stuff ot know… and it is really important to remember to use the resources I have available to me to find out what I need to know- instead of sitting out there in the dark. :)

I'm so glad you called and got some peace of mind. I think it's awesome that you use the resources to your benefit. You are doing so well & I think you are so motivational!

I would think that all the exercise would affect the weight loss too……you are building muscle as you lose the fat and muscle weighs more but burns more calories. You way is probably better than just relying on the bypass and diet.

Auntie….(hates the post comment profile stuff here)
